June 26, class

In class today we discussed how television and movies have changed. The angles, colors, audio, and types of actors have changed through out the years. Specifically, the actors use to be like Charles Kaplan who was more of an acrobatic actor was fired through the year since I love Lucy came in. Lucy was not acrobatic but an actress who used dramatic motions.

June 25- class

Today in class we went over the different camera angles. We went over bird eye used for “gods” eye, high angle, low angle used for making other characters bigger, and eye level which is a more classical style. The colors that are used also play a major role in creating a scene. Specifically, reds are used for anger and violence while white is used to show innocence and purity. The color blue is used to show cold, whereas black represents evil. We also went over the phrase mise en scene, which means placing on the stage. For example, props or characters can be used as a mesi en scene. At the end of class we were able to choose our final project. Personally, I am doing advisement for the movie Moonrise Kingdom.

June 22, class

In class today we finished our discussion about PR. We got into groups of Katie Perry's, Sesame Street's, and CBS's PR teams. In our class Katie's PR team used a apologetic approach to adress the issue. While in real like they did the opposite, they actually used an aggressive approach by going on to SNL and making fun of the situation. On the other hand, in class the Sesame Street's PR team used an apologetic approach like in real life. In real life, they went on to CBS and Elmo talked about how he loved having a play date with Katie but they also apologized to their viewers. During class, the CBS group took the parents side and by talking about if they should trust Sesame street and Katie Perry. However, in real life CBS took the side of the parents but blamed Katie Perry for the incident. Additionally, in we discussed different shots and visited a studio on campus. The three shots we discussed were a wide shot, meduim, and a close up.

My Symbol

June 21-class

Today in class we went over the topic Strategic Marketing. The class went over the 5 P's, Product, Price, Promotion, Placement, and Position. Depending on the type of product ads are shown outdoors, websites, and on television. The competition of the different name brands is crucial in advertising. Once a company is on top they stay that way for a while. We talked about the steps of making a creative advertisement. Looking at the competitions ads, writing down five characteristics, creating a spectrum of characteristics, and watching the ad are the four steps to making a first-class ad. At the end of class, we grouped up to talk about different advertising techniques. In my group, we had Crest toothpaste; we discussed how the best way to target our buyers would be to have a television commercial. Our pick up line four our crest complete multi step would be, “ one step, passes the test”.

June 19, 20- class

For the duration of class, we discussed the topic of journalism. We talked about the structure and how an article should include a lede, important details, other details, and a quote. Additionally, we talked about how reports should write unbias articles by leaving out their opinions. Also, we discussed about the different ways of viewing the information. Newspapers, magazines, and news were three different ways that journalist get the information out into the world. Personally, I like the news because you get a visual of what you are learning about. Citizen journalism was another topic that came up in class. Framing, I think was the most interesting thing about journalism. In particular, I think it is fascinating how the area where the story is being published effect the title. For example, during 9/11 there were many articles that went out about it. However, the titles of basically the same information ranged from terror, war on America, to bastard!.

Working in groups

Personally, i like working in groups since, you get different opinions and ideas for your project. Additionally, having a different set of eyes look at your work can also be beneficial.During this project, i liked specifically like that we had many different ideas for the a good hook that would make the audience want to read more.

Journalism: “Defy your mother!”

“Defy your mother!” Mandy Slovin, a young woman with nineteen piercings tells us the story behind each ring in her body. Mandy’s obsession with piercings began at age four while watching Madonna on MTV, at her house. Her religious mother forbade her to get piercings which only fueled her desire for rebellion. When she turned sixteen, Mandy moved out of her family’s house and as her first act of rebellion, got a nose ring which remains her favorite since it was the first. After many years of separation, rebellion and piercings, Mandy decided to talk to her mother again, and five years later, her mother finally allowed her back into their home since she learned to be more open minded.

From that point on, she has been infatuated with the pain and pleasure of getting piercings. Mandy claims that her favorite part of her piercings is how trendy they are. She loves to get them in new places when it is in style and then take them to a whole new level in her body. “If my boyfriend’s mother asked me to take out my piercings, I would say hell no,” Mandy says. Her rebellious attitude hasn’t changed over the years.  She also claims that the only times she takes out her piercings unwillingly is when she gets surgery.

It is now ten years later and Mandy has had a total of nineteen different piercings; five in her mouth, three in each ear, three in her nose, and five hidden from sights. She has risked a lot for each of her beloved piercings as many have been infected. Her most painful memory comes from an infection in her ear’s cartilage. Her ear was completely swollen to the point that you could not see any of the creases in her ear. “It looked like a tomato. I almost lost my ear, guys!” she says.

Cute Couple

June 18- class

Today in class we focussed on symbols and how to show anger without using words. Specifically, during class we discussed different arbitrary symbols. Additionally,  we talked about how symbols are represented by shared experiences. Another, way symbols are used is for practical needs, such as highway signs. Symbols also create and identify or meaning of an object or person. For example, super man has a S on his chest, therefore when you see the S you will think of superman. In addition, in class we grouped up and created different ways of showing anger without using words. Personally, my partner and used a series of pictures to show anger. In the photos we have hands making different movements.
